The Wren, a new Fells Point pub from the founders of Le Comptoir du Vin, opened this month at the former home of the popular Birds of a Feather pub.
The Wren’s restaurant menu changes daily and takes inspiration from continental Europe, Ireland and the UK, focusing on seasonal, country cooking traditions.
The name The Wren is inspired by Wren’s Day, a traditional Irish celebration held on Dec. 26. The restaurant was opened by Rosemary Liss, along with her business partner and chef, Will Mester. Will’s wife, Millie Powell is from Dublin and serves as the manager. She is also responsible for creating the desserts.
Dinner is available Wednesday through Saturday with lunch service coming soon, according to The Wren’s website. The restaurant does not take reservations.
“You can enjoy your company or relative solitude — your drink, the fireplace, (when the weather suits) and the various functions that we put on, without the distraction of food flying about the room,” the website said.
Last year, Birds of a Feather closed after 44 years in business. That bar was famous for its large selection of scotch — a tradition that continues at The Wren.
In August 2024, an application to transfer ownership of the site’s liquor license was approved by Baltimore’s liquor board. The Wren’s attorney Stephan Fogleman said at the time there had been a meeting with the Fell’s Point Residents Association, which did not oppose plans for The Wren.
The restaurant is open five days a week and is closed on Sundays and Tuesdays. The kitchen is open Wednesday through Saturday from 5:30-9:30 p.m. The bar is open Monday to Saturday from 5-10:30 p.m.
