A burst pipe forced Baltimore Center Stage to cancel two performances of “Pride and Prejudice” on Saturday.
The flooding caused “significant damage” to the lobby and second floor, and the Department of Public Works responded to shut off an exterior valve, Center Stage spokesperson Robyn Murphy said.
Performances in the Mount Vernon neighborhood resumed Sunday afternoon, the theater said on social media.
“We are thankful for the quick actions of our staff in evacuation, securing valuables, and contacting patrons about the cancellations,” Murphy said. “We are also deeply grateful for the city’s immediate responsiveness.“
The theater’s production of “Pride and Prejudice” was produced in cooperation with the Arkansas Repertory Theatre. The adaptation by playwright Kate Hamill of Jane Austen’s novel will run through next Sunday. A production of “Black Nativity,” a musical drama by Langston Hughes, will run from Nov. 30 to Dec. 22.
